Yangon (B,L). Start the morning from colonial-style city center where you’ll see the landmarks in Yangon including Sule Paya stupa—built over 2,000 years ago, Chauk Htat Gyi Buddha Temple of the 65 meter long Reclining Buddha image and Karaweik Hall, a bird-shaped golden royal palace on Kandawgyi Lake. We complete the day with a visit to one of the world’s most spectacular monuments, the Shwedagon Pagoda, a gold covered bell dome structure that dominates the city’s skyline. Legend has it that strands of sacred Buddha’s hair are enshrined here.
Fly to MANDALAY (B,L). Fly to Mandalay. Proceed to the highlights of Mandalay: the sacred Mahamuni Pagoda, housing one of the most significant Buddha images in the country, covered in several tons of gold leaf and the crown prize in long past wars between competing Myanmar kingdoms; the Golden Palace Monastery, the sole surviving Royal Palace building in Mandalay, offering a glimpse of the original style. Then visit Yaykyi Village where you can see home industries. In the afternoon, we observe the process of pounding gold leaf, detailing teakwood carvings and embroidering Myanmar tapestry. And we end our day with sunset panoramic views over city skyline on Mandalay Hill, the highest point of the city.
Mandalay (B,L). Excursion to Amarapura, a former capital of Myanmar; visit Mahagandayon Monastery where more than a thousand monks live and study. Time permitting you will have the opportunity to observe the monks having their last meal of the day in total silence. There, we visit a cottage industry workshop to learn how Myanmar longyis and traditional fabrics are woven. Continuing to the U-Bein Bridge, a simple yet remarkable teak structure that spans over Taungtaman Lake. Ubein Bridge, silhouetted by the setting sun, is a magical experience and a photographer’s dream. Then continue to the Kuthodaw Pagoda, a compound housing Buddha’s teachings carved in the sacred Pali script on stone slabs and regarded as the world’s largest book in terms of surface area.
Fly to Bagan (B,L). Fly to Bagan. Visit Nyaung U Market, the largest market in the Bagan region, to get a glimpse into the local life. Continue to Myauk Gunitemple, an archaeological zone to view many Bagan temples. End the day at the majestic Ananda Temple with its four standing Buddha images that seems to gaze at the viewer with fixed serenity wherever the viewer stands.
Bagan (B,L,D). Morning, visit Bupaya, one of the oldest pagoda and the Royal Palace site. Learn how Bagan’s famous lacquer ware crafts are produced in Myingaba Village. A special visit to Monastic School, where provides education for over 500 students, who cannot afford for school, from nearby villages. Meet the local students, teach them English and experience the local student life. In the evening, we transfer to the Ayeyarwaddy River for a Private sunset cruise along with views of the temple silhouettes and bustling shore.
Bagan (B). Full day enjoy your free time at leisure or join an optional Mount Popa excursion, where kings of central Burma made pilgrimages to confer with the sacred statues about the future of their reigns and the Burmese spiritual epicenter for those who worship the pantheon of nat spirits and martyrs.
Fly to Yangon and home (B,D). Today we fly back to Yangon where you will have a chance to do last minute shopping at the famous Scott (Bogyoke) Market, explore the colonial charm and bustling markets of downtown or relax with the traditional high tea at a historical hotel before saying goodbye to this beautiful country.
